Advocacy Alert: Little Pimmit Run Stream Restoration Meeting

An increase in the volume of water from climate change and increased impermeable surfaces degrades stream beds

Fairfax County staff will hold a tour of the Little Pimmit Run stream restoration project for impacted residents on Thursday, June 9 at 5:00 pm. The purpose of this tour is to view the existing stream channel at different parts of the project. The meeting will consist touring four locations along the Little Pimmit Run stream valley.

This portion of the stream restoration project, between Franklin Park Road and Kirby Road, is part of Fairfax County's larger effort to restore the county's degraded streams. This project is listed in the county’s The Middle Potomac Watershed Management Plan and was advanced because of concerns raised by residents in 2017 and due to the need to address several sewer lines that are being undermined.

Safety note for participants: The Little Pimmit Run tour is occurring on private property and in a stream valley park. We recommend that those who attend be prepared with personal protective items as needed such as close toed shoes, long pants, bug spray, and/or sunscreen. County staff will be monitoring the weather and provide notification of any changes if inclement weather is forecast.

The Virtual Meeting for Phase I will take place on June 13 at 7:00 pm.

While the project limits are set, the stream section above Franklin Park Road will be proposed as a future phase. The section of stream channel behind the Chesterbrook Elementary School is on the stormwater Capital Improvement Plan and is on the Fiscal Year 2026 work program.
