Make Firefly Magic!

You can help bring the fireflies back to Franklin Park

Remember the magic of watching fireflies on a summer night, of catching them in a jar for your bedside table and releasing them again the next morning?

Though the fireflies have gradually been disappearing in Franklin Park, you can help bring them back!

If you can set aside a small area in your yard to put raked leaves in, water them down, and let them stay through the winter and into next year, fireflies (and other useful critters) can use that for habitat.

If you want fireflies, leave some leaves

Where you already have areas with shrubs or woodland, you can simply leave the leaves where they fall, rather than blowing them away.

And next year, and the following years, we can expect to see more and more fireflies in the yards of Franklin Park!

Look for the magic to return next June
