Spring/Summer/Fall 2024 Caring for Neighborhood Forests and Gardens

UFA and all our volunteers took advantage of winter conditions to prune vines from trees at multiple areas in and around Franklin Park and Franklin Forest. Progress is visible! But spring will give way to summer and all those pesky and aggressive invasive plants are going to do their best to survive. They will steal nutrients, strangle trees, compete with native plants, and reduce food sources and habitat for our native fauna.

We’re still here, and we still care! (UFA) continues to host gardening events that help restore the health of the land in and around our neighborhood. Please join us as you are able…or just wave or honk as you go by to let us know you’re with us in spirit!

Tasks at each area will be different, but as always, loppers, shovels, clippers, trowels, and other assorted garden gear are always welcome.

Other things to wear and bring Weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes with a good tread appropriate for walking through a wooded area with uneven surfaces. Long sleeves and pants. Hats, and sunglasses if needed. Gloves are a must!! Some extra gloves will be available, but sizes are limited. Bug spray is always preventive and highly recommended as the weather gets warmer. Bug spray! IIvy wash will be available. Bring walking sticks for stability if you have them – a couple are available for use. Water is always a good idea!

All participants are asked to sign in and instructions will be given, including for clearing any targeted invasive plant(s).

Join in the good work that Franklin Park is doing!
