Community Workday

UFA volunteer invites you to join us for the next vine removal event in Franklin Park

January 28th 11:00 am - 1:00 pm (Rain date January 29th)

The Urban Forest Alliance is teaming up with the Franklin Area Citizens Association to clear a targeted area and protect the trees at one of the entryways to Franklin Park. We will cut down Japanese knotweed stalks, clean out vines and other invasive plants, and begin to tag native plants we want to protect and encourage at the site.

This is all in preparation for the work we will be doing in the coming spring, summer, and fall, funded in part by a matching grant from the Virginia Department of Forestry and the generosity of you, our neighbors. This event will serve as a great opportunity to educate youngsters on the threat of invasive plants in our environment and can also be used to gain community service hours.

What to wear and bring — Weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes with a good tread appropriate for walking through a wooded area on uneven ground. Long sleeves and pants, as well as hats, are a good idea. Gloves are a must!! Walking sticks if you have them for stability – a few are available for use. Water is always a good idea!

Bring garden shears and/or loppers if you have them, and any other useful garden tools. Disposal bags, stakes, and tags will be provided.

Gather – at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave and Vermont Avenue. Instructions for clearing vines from trees will be given.

Want to help? We’d love to have you!
